“…and we’re losing at Sifilar right now. There’s a lot of heavy fighting.”
I looked at the view screen at my boss. The lines in his face were starting to look like scars in the dim light.
“Boss, I’m sure Gemma’s death was a homicide. She was murdered. We have to do something about this!”
“Sinti, I understand. I miss her as much as you do and I will find who is responsible. But I’m a full ten systems away from you and I can’t leave right now. Lucius and the rest of the Knighthood are working just has hard on their end, but like us in the Guard, they can’t leave the war to handle what is ultimately a local police matter. Favored or not, Capsuleer or not, we’ve had our memorial, it’s time to let her go.
I blinked back tears, “Ok. What are my orders sir?”
Luckily, he ignored the sarcasm, “Kuomi Logistics was always a test run on how to manage a corporation. We succeeded in driving down prices in the area, assisted the war effort and made a decent amount of cash in the process. But when it was two of you, it was almost more than you could manage. One of you…”
“I know, I hate to have to fire everyone, but there are a lot of new business opportunities now from companies that are copying our model. Gemma was a good driver and manager. They’ll survive, I guess.”
“Yes she was Sinti. Now, I want you to liquidate everything except what you need to make it as a solo miner. Save all the blueprints though, we might need them in the future. Close up shop and go back to the Homeworld. Wait there and I’ll line up some other companies for you to hire onto. Let Concorde place you in one of the Minmatar Companies in the meantime. Try for Freshfoods, they’re pretty inoffensive.”
“Any luck on the Sisters?”
“No, the Sisters don’t usually talk with Amarr Military. I’m thinking actually of something a little more…challenging. How would you like to try living in Providence?”
“I’d rather scoop out my uterus and send it out for dry cleaning sir,” I grinned.
“I might need some eyes out there soon. I’ll check with one of the loyalist groups out there and see who’s hiring for fleet support. Don’t worry. I won’t have you joining Star Fraction…yet.”
This time, I ignored his sarcasm, “Ok. Boss. There’s a lot of good money to be made, I suppose. If nothing else.”
“That too.”
I sighed, “So this is the end of Kuomi?”
He smiled warmly, “Yes. There’s only us now. Two out of nine. And if we’re not careful and smart, we’ll be lost to the darkness as well.
I could hear explosions and siren went off in his background. A red light went on somewhere off camera and his face looked like it was streaked in blood.
“I have to go Sinti. Stay safe. Stay on Homeworld near the Basilica and wait for word from me. “
“Go with God Boss.”
The view screen went black.
I looked around what used to be the main office of Kuomi Logistics.
I think people need to know more about what we were doing here. They should know about me and Boss and all our lost friends and family. I think what we’ve done, what we’re doing and what we’re going to do is going to end up saving a lot of lives. I don’t what to think about what will happen if we fail to stop the growing darkness.
This is Sinti Vailatti, signing off…for now. I’ll leave a link so you can follow along. What happens next is going to be quite a ride.
